CLE Coordinator

Position Summary

The Continuing Legal Education Coordinator, under the supervision and direction of the Director of Continuing Legal Education, shall have primary responsibility for coordination of the Mecklenburg County Bar's accredited CLE programming as regulated by the North Carolina State Bar. This requires supporting the production of all live, video, online and webcast trainings in conjunction with volunteers and CLE staff. This position assists in monitoring the CLE budget and coordinating the workflow of the CLE Assistant. Complies with NC Open Meeting and Public Records Law by ensuring meetings are noticed and minutes are recorded and maintained.

1. CLE Program Development Planning and Management

  • Assists with development of program topics with program planners and CLE Committee.
  • Acts as liaison between CLE Committee and Section Chairs and Section MCB staff person
  • Works with program planners, firm contacts and staff to schedule and provide notification for programs.
  • Researches new and innovative programs through web, news and Bar member feedback.
  • Maintains and keeps the calendar up-to-dates.
  • Works with the NC State Bar for course approval and filing attendance reports and sponsor fees.
  • Maintains records of past and current program materials and attendance; prepares files for storage/year-end close out.
  • Prepares registration lists and attends programs. Provides on site support as needed.
  • Coordinates with printing company to print materials/manuals for CLE seminars.
  • Coordinates CLE program registration, attendance and on site or web-based logistics.
  • Coordinates with MCB Finance to reconcile receipts/expenses.
  • Facilitates program coordination with MCB committees, events team, sections and other professional local organizations which may benefit the practice of lawyers.

2. CLE Marketing

  • Distributes list of available videos to firm contacts.
  • Assists CLE Director in developing all written and electronic CLE materials.
  • Coordinates the development and submission of articles and other relevant CLE materials for the monthly Bar newsletter.
  • Updates CLE webpage/store content in conjuction with the CLE Staff and the MCB Director of Communications
  • Markets CLE programs to other Bars and professional organizations; markets internally to sections, leadership and other relevant Bar programs

May perform other duties as required.

Scope of Responsibility: Somewhat independent; work frequently done independently by following practices and procedures while occasionally having work checked. Incumbents rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assignments.

Supervisory Responsibility: This job has limited supervisory responsibilities and directs the workflow of the CLE Assistant under the supervision of the CLE Director.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal). Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. Well organized, self-directed and able to manage time. High level of versatility and ability to multi-task.

Requires strong communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with both staff and volunteers on deadline. Must have a high level of versatility in order to switch roles on demand. Use of Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and database programs necessary.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum Bachelors Degree from a 4-year accredited university or college.
  • Previous Continuing Legal Education experience required.
  • Prefer 3 to 5 years professional experience in the education field. Marketing and event planning experience helpful.
  • Strong aptitude with technology in relation to webcasting and videoconferencing capabilities.

Physical Demands

  • Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Motion: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Visual: Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Physical: Will regularly be required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. Must be able to stand, walk, stood, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb stairs. Must be able to sit in front of computer monitor for long periods of time. Must regularly life and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally life and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment: Office environment; noise level is usually moderate.

Travel Required: Travel is required for this position. Must be able to travel to various sites for meetings and events.
