Earn Free CLE Credit

Did you know that you can earn free CLE credit through the Mecklenburg County Bar?  It's true!  You can earn free CLE by either speaking at a CLE program or planning a CLE program.

Speakers earn CLE credit equal to 6 times the length of their actual speaking/presentation time, per North Carolina State Bar rules, and do not pay the registration fee for that CLE program. 

If you speak for 1 hour at a 3-hour CLE and attend the entire program, you just earned 8 hours of CLE credit - for free!  (Six hours of CLE credit for speaking, plus 2 hours of CLE credit for attending the remainder of the program.)

Requirements -

Speakers must submit 5 to 7 pages of written material (double-spaced) for each hour of their presentation, which is far less burdensome than many national CLE sponsors.

In addition to earning free CLE credit, speaking at a CLE is a great way to market yourself and your practice and meet other attorneys interested in the same area of the law.

Earn free CLE credit without teaching the program -

For those who are not comfortable with speaking, planning a CLE program is a second way to earn free CLE credit.  Joining the MCB CLE committee is the easiest way to get involved in program planning.  Committee members are encouraged (but not required) to plan 1 CLE program during the Bars fiscal year (July 1 through June 31); the CLE committee continually generates and welcomes new program ideas.  Planners line up speakers for their program, with the help of the CLE committee, and coordinate with them to ensure that they timely submit written materials and are otherwise prepared for the program.  Planners must attend their programs, and thus attend free of charge.  Program planning is a great way to get involved in the Bar and meet colleagues.
