WHO WE ARE

The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) is a dynamic community within the Mecklenburg Bar Association for attorneys in the early stages of their careers. YLD provides meaningful opportunities to connect with peers, give back to the community, and grow as leaders in the Charlotte legal community.

MEMBERSHIP

Who Can Join? You must be an attorney member of the Mecklenburg Bar Association, 36 years old or younger or within your first 10 years of practicing law in Mecklenburg County to join the Mecklenburg Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (YLD).

Newly sworn-in admittees: Receive the first year of MBA Young Lawyers Division membership for free! Each newly-admitted lawyer assigned to the 26th Judicial District Bar through the NC State Bar is granted FREE membership in the Mecklenburg Bar Association and the YLD throughout the fiscal year in which he or she is sworn-in. After your first complimentary year, YLD membership is only an additional $35 annually, making the YLD one of the best and most affordable ways to make connections in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg legal community.

Law Students: Join the MBA for $50/year! Benefits include a YLD student affiliate membership, MBA Level 1 membership for one year after being admitted to the NC Bar, and discounted member rate for the MBA PNA program after being admitted. Click here to join.

YLD YOUNG LAWYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Mecklenburg Bar Association YLD Young Lawyer of the Year Award recognizes the outstanding contributions young lawyers are making to the practice of law and the Mecklenburg County community as a whole. This award is presented at the Law & Society Gala in the spring.

Swearing-In Sponsor Interest Form

The MBA Young Lawyers Division (YLD) is always looking for sponsoring attorneys to help welcome new admittees at the Fall and Spring swearing-in ceremonies by formally introducing them to the court. This meaningful role is a great way to support new lawyers as they begin their legal careers. Sponsors must be attorneys licensed to practice in North Carolina.
